You probably have heard that breast cancer is the second most common cause of death in women in the U.S. This is reason for concern for women. Early breast cancer detection provides the best outcomes in the event it does occur. Is there something you can do for early breast cancer detection? More importantly, is there a way to detect breast cancer propensity even at the earliest signs? Yes, absolutely. It involves checking your 2:16-hydroxyestrone ratio and having breast thermography.

What is the 2:16 -Hydroxyestrone Ratio?

Estrogens are metabolized in the body by various biochemical pathways. There are large variations among both men and women how estrogens are metabolized. One particular estrogen, called estrone, can be metabolized via the healthy 2-hydroxyestrone (2OH-E1) pathway or the unhealthy 16-?-Hydroxyestrone (16-?-OH-E1) pathway. The ratio by which estrogens are metabolized via these pathways can indicate the long-term risk of developing breast cancer. This ratio is called the 2:16-hydroxyestrone ratio. This ratio is an important indicator for early breast cancer detection and prevention. A ratio of 2 or less means a higher risk for breast cancer. This ratio is also an indicator for other estrogen-sensitive cancers such as ovarian, cervical, uterine, prostate and certain head and neck cancers.

A recent study published in the Journal of Cancer Epidemiology has reinforced the correlation between being overweight, smoking and breast cancer. What makes this study unique is how test subjects were not diagnosed for BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations, which predispose women to breast cancer. At first I had severe pains in one of my breasts, and there was also a some-what large and hard lump in the same one. However my other breast seemed perfectly normal. I don't know if this had anything to even do with it.I went to the doctor, I would like to know what this meaned, and if it meaned that i might have breast cancer. Was it even possible to have breast cancer at age 20?
Fortunately, I went to the doctor and get an accurate diagnosis and correct treatment. I am fine now.I have paid 200% attention to breast health and how to prevent breast cancer.

You should really ask your gp if your worried about it. Some types must be because recently I was treated for piles which were ongoing for a year and was asked if anyone in my family had bowel cancer. When I said that my uncle (my mother's brother) had died from it I was told that wouldn't affect it - it would have to be a closer relation. Although to be perfectly honest I think they clutch at straws with a lot of this as they don't really know what causes it. It's no harm to find out how to check yourself out properly and keep up regular checks anyway but don't go stressing yourself because that won't do you any good.

That's a really good idea. An idea I had was the marie curie foundation have a "create a card for cancer" campaign. I've made cards for it in the past but would much rather do this for a charity closer to home. Why doesn't the marie keating foundation get bags printed up and delivered to craft shops nationwide for crafters to pick up as many as they like and create as many cards as they like for any occasion. These would then be sold nationwide and all proceeds would go to the marie keating foundation. I have astack of stuff waiting to be used guys if the idea goes ahead.

Hi Annie,

I'm only a new member of this website and saw your thread on cervical cancer. I hope you got on alright. I'm 39 years young and I've had part of my cervix burnt off with a laser in the past because of stage 2 cells (verging on cancer but not quite there yet!). As a result I have to have smear tests done every year. For anyone who hasn't had one done before, they're not the most comfortable thing in the world but it's not too bad and considering it could save your life it's worth a little bit of discomfort I reckon. I cannot stress enough how important it is for anyone who is sexually active to have regular smear tests carried out. A lot could be happening down there without us knowing about it. Also, I'd like to voice my disgust at the government for depriving teenage girls of the vaccination against cervical cancer but yet they can set aside 10m euro to pay anyone who does not get re-elected 70,000 - go figure.

Anyway, best of luck everyone and mind yourselves.

Take care,
PLEASE NO-ONE IGNORE ANY CHANGES AND GO TO THEIR GP OR AN MKF VAN ASAP.I hope you have been ok but is probably not right to say this I had no pain, which frightened me more, sometimes pain can be a good thing and make you more aware of your body and the way your body works, the pain could have made you aware of something that would have been dimissed if you never felt it.

Hi Bubbie
I only just joined the site and saw ure mail - I could totally relate to it. I was diagnosed with breast cancer this time last year at the age of 33. It is so lonely for people our age. I went to Arc house in Cork - they are fantastic but as you say there is on one under 55!! It's the same in the hospital too. The only place where I spoke to anyone younger was through reach to recovery. They are great because you can tell them exactly the profile of the person you are looking to talk to - i.e age, marital status, etc. I cried my eyes out when I spoke to that girl. I'm definatley going to go to Dublin to that conference for young women in Feb - I don't think it's 100% decided whether it will be in Dublin or Cork. Either way i'm going because we could make great contacts. Like yourself I would love to join a young womens group in the cork area - if you hear of any let me know or vice versa.
Kind regards,

Hi,
To take away your worry - my advice is to go for a 2nd opinion - it's always advisable.
You could for instance make an appointment with a breast care centre - or a wellwomans centre - and ask them to see you as soon as possible and if there are booked up, go to another clinic. Worry is making you feel so bad and from reading your article above, you need to get this sorted to put your mind at ease.

As a cancer patient - I often find myself looking up topics, typing in words and getting totally off the wall results that you cannot take as been related to your symptons

Only listen to your doctor, but find a doctor that you are totally happy with and that you can talk to.

My main reason for getting a 2nd option was because I could not relate the the doctor I was provided and the consultant I speak with now, it the total opposite.

To aim to stop the worring, and fear, pick up the phone today and ask for an urgent appointment - that way you will not be waiting and worrying any longer and you will feel better.

Hope this help and best of luck.

Hi,

I'm 30 yrs old and for the last few days have been experiencing a pain near my left beast. It's more so the side of my breast on the ribs if you know what I mean. Its a wierd pain that when touched feels like the area is bruised......there's no lumps from what I can tell and it doesn't appear to look bruised. I was just wondering if I should have this checked or leave it for another little while to see if it goes away.......

Thanking you in advance for any replies/advice.

Sinead,
I can see exactly where u are at - I'm there to.
I did attend Arc for a number of months and people were very nice/supportive - but again it scared me to think not one person was under 55 - not one - which did really stump me and continues to do so. I know young women/men are out there. I remember getting my chemo and walkin to the bathroom with drip atttached etc and a guy came down to corridor with his drip attached and we both just looked at each other in awe - another person under 40 - that was so long ago but I can still remember how happy it made me.

Unless I have an indication that young people are going to at a support group/meeting, I do feel for me there is no point in putting on the coat and coming back home half stressed out again because no support for me there!

I don't mean to give out or condem the other groups and the time and great effort everyone goes to - but I feel in the dark and it's getting to be a stressful scene for me.

Ta.

Hi,
Thank you taking the time to write and respond to my query and your valued info.

I think it would be extremely helpful for a group from late teens to early 40s to meet up. It has to be! I think women are crying out for it regardless of what type of cancer they have had or are getting through. Personally I have found that after finishing treatments etc etc - I have surprised myself but I do find the aftermath very scarry and it is only hitting me now. Thank God for a great GP! she's is makings of me but you cannot run to doctor every day! - it's way from hospitals etc I want and try and get back to living.

There seems to be two issue with me in particular (and maybe with others) Cancer is one and Age is another and for me Age is a big issue!

Often its difficult for someone to attend seminars etc if they are not locally run and it's hard to organise anything cause hospital appointments happen and they have to be attended to.

I will attend a seminar next month located about 5 miles from where I live and see how that goes.

If anyone know a Young Group being formed in the south east region of ireland, please please let me know.

Regards,

Bubbie

Thanks for the info.
