The Marie Keating Foundation will hold a free Kerry breast cancer seminar in the Rose Hotel, Tralee, Co Kerry from 6.30pm-9pm on Thursday, 6 October. The event is open to the general public and will explore how to prevent, detect and survive breast cancer, which is the most common female cancer in Ireland. The seminar will also include advice on what you should know about your own breasts and body and what key questions you should ask your GP and oncologist should you be sent for tests or diagnosed with the disease. The event is free of charge but registration is essential.

The free Kerry breast cancer seminar will include talks from a Marie Keating Foundation nurse, a breast cancer survivor, a consultant, and a representative of Kerry cancer support services. There will also be opportunities to ask questions and speak to the Marie Keating Foundation nurse one-on-one.

According to the National Cancer Registry of Ireland there are nearly 30,000 women living with breast cancer in Ireland. Every year around 2,900 cases are diagnosed and the number of breast cancer cases being diagnosed increases each year.  One in 10 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Co Kerry has a breast cancer incidence of 73.13 per 100,000 which is second only to Co Tipperary according to the National Cancer Registry. However, the survival rate for breast cancer continues to improve thanks to early detection and improvements in treatments. There are now approximately 121,000 breast cancer survivors in Ireland.
