The Pigsback 5k/10k in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation will also be a fun family day out with entertainment, goodies and lots of prizes. Now a flagship event each October, all proceeds will go to fund the charity’s life-saving work in breast cancer awareness and services. To register, see http://www.mariekeating.ie/events/pigsback.

Dr Carla O’ Neill, Director of Nursing Services at the Marie Keating Foundation, says, “Research has shown that getting regular exercise and keeping a healthy weight can reduce your risk of breast cancer and other cancers, so that’s the perfect motivation for an event like this. 5k is just over three miles which is an achievable distance for all ages and abilities. At the Pigsback 5k / 10k, you can run, jog or walk your way around the course.”

Speaking at the launch, Foundation ambassador Ronan Keating said, “Each year, more than 3,200 women in Ireland are diagnosed with breast cancer, and there are currently more than 30,000 women in Ireland fighting the disease.  The good news is that more and more women are surviving, particularly if their breast cancer is diagnosed at stage 0 or 1. The Marie Keating Foundation is intent on spreading the message of early detection, helping people who are coping with the effects of the disease and supporting cancer survivors as they return to life after treatment. Taking part in the Pigsback 5k / 10k is a great way to show your support for the women in your life. So get out there, start your training and get your friends and family to sign-up with you for the big day on Sunday, 15th of October 2017.”

John McDonald, Managing Director, Pigsback.com, said “Pigsback have long been a proud supporter of the Marie Keating Foundation and last year Pigsback customers and staff raised over €20,000. This year, we want to beat that figure and this event is a big part of that effort so join us in supporting this small charity which has huge energy and helps an amazing number of people each year. It will be fun and a great way to focus on your fitness. There will also be lots of Pigsback prizes.”
